I downloaded the driver to my home directory, right-clciked on it and set it to executable, the opened a terminal, logged in as root (su), and typed: <br />/sbin/telinit 3 <br /> <br />This killed X and dropped me to a shell, where I went CTRL-Alt-F3 (or F1, F2, etc) to drop me to another virtual terminal. Once there, log on as root (su), and simply run: sh NVIDIA and tap the TAB key to auto-complete the driver name, then hit enter to run. Say no to checking for a pre-compiled module, and let it compile for you. Only took a minute or so on my box. Say Yes to automatically configure at end, then type STARTX to restart the xserver. I then log back in as root in X to set up the Nvidia display control in the menu, then log back out and back in as normal user. Everything works fine. <br /> <br />I am using an Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 card.
