FAQ BLAG 50000 on P3- 800MHz, Successful install ( on 30GB HD )
BLAG 50k: based on Fedora C5, Install Type=Server & Office, Auto HD partitioning, FWalll disabled

My main Apps & services: Apache Websrv, FTP, SSH and Samba Fileserver
1. Apache2 Web Server
a. Edit /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
Insert : listen
b. Start Apache2 via Services & tick off, did not work. Rebooted and was then ok.
c. Test URL= localhost or (in my case) - all ok after system reboot.
2. FTP Server – BLAG, a) Remove two files: rm /etc/hosts.deny and rm /etc/hosts.allow
b). Edit /etc/hosts localhost Linux1
c). Update hostname : hostname Linux1
d). Start VSFTPD via Services and test FTP using Firefox, url = ftp://localhost
3. SSH already started under Services, testing from Laptop= ok
4. Samba Fileserver 4 Windows Home Netw:
Installed/updated av Samba-Client and Samba as follows ( was not required or ? ):
Apt-get update ( Updates Blag…. )
Apt-get install samba-client ( DL ca 13MB + install, tot ca 1 min )
Apt-get install samba ( DL 16.5MB + install, tot ca 1 min )
a). Create folder /export as follows : mkdir /export, chmod 777 export
b). edit the file /etc/samba/smb.conf ( minimum smb.conf file for my usage )
[global] workgroup = MSHOME
netbios name = Linux1
[homes] browseable = no
read only = no
create mode = 0750
[export] path = /export
public = yes
read only = no
writable = yes
create mode = 0777
directory mode = 0777
Test the config settings in smb.conf : testparm
c). Manual Start of Samba: /etc/init.d/smb start ( status “starting smb services+nmb = ok)
d). Check Samba shares etc: smbclient –L localhost -U%
e). Autostart Samba via Services or : /sbin/chkconfig --level 345 smb on
/sbin/service smb start
SMBPASSWD: Samba Access control (New users may login without restarting Samba )
Access to Samba is here controlled by login prompt, ref /etc/samba/smbpasswd file
a. Add a new linux user : useradd nick
b. Update smbpasswd file to allow Samba shares login for nick
smbpasswd holeg // change samba login pw for holeg
smbpasswd –a nick // update smbpasswd file with a new user…
5. Add Printer via Print Controll, ADD Cups IPP, HPLaserj 1200 IP= (didn’t work)

6. Installed extra sw under Blag 50000 ( via Applications – Add/Remove Software) or:
MC, Midnight Commander: yum install mc
Synaptic, GUI package admin: apt-get install synaptic (DL ca 1.6MB – 30 sec install )

MySQL Server: apt-get install mysql-server ( ca 10.6MB )
Start under services or manually via: /etc/init.d/mysqld start

Define passwd (only required once): vncpasswd
Check vnc server state : vncserver
Edit \root\.vnc\xstartup ( remove the # on unset + exec lines)
