i have this odd problem with streamtuner and i need help please /70K fully updated, nvidia drivers, beryl running in session as well/.

basically whenever i try to record a stream, x session is killed and i'm kicked back to gdm login :) there is a bit of gibberish which looks asmish the second before the crash but i can not capture it as crash occurs literally in a second.

I've checked in streamtuner's options, the command it executes is xterm -e streamripper %q . I can run same from a terminal and there is no problems with xsession.

What logs or something of this nature (gdb?) can i check to trace/fix this?
Is there maybe some way to use something besides xtrem -e ?

Sounds like you have the same options that I have. Considered turning off beryl and rip a stream? Also sounds as if you can run the ripper from the command line without crashing. Confirm that please with

I'd also run top in a terminal so see the active processes during this activity.

Finally does the tuner ever crash at all without you ripping? Say you listened to channel X, then Y, then Z, what happens?

Since this is about a crashing nvidia driver (the proprietary one, I assume), i'm booting to slaveware.

Just out of interest can you use the firefox media plugins to play stuff like utube movies and streams without crashing X?

yeah it works quite well, but then again i use firefox not deerpark.

there are no major problems with this install, except the flash part:

when i don't have flash/gnash installed at all, ff somehow still plays flash mov's and tells me it uses flash 7 for some strange reason, literally a strange problem but nothing major and doubtfully related to this x crashing problem.

but then again it might not be an x problem but something to do with streamtuner/ripper/xterm, i can open just about ANY program from streamtuner's property page, except xterm :(((

Who do you log in as normally? A non-root user? What results do you get from running the following?

My output can be used as an example or something to compare with.

yes, i login with regular non root user. results are:

echo $SHELL $TERM $USER $DESKTOP_SESSION
/bin/bash xterm myuser default

also scratch the problem with flash 7, i just found an extra /home/myuser/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so which was of wrong version and shouldn't have been there.
probably was there ever since i migrated from windows, as this profile i use now is windows > ubuntu > blag migrated :)
