I changed /etc/initab from runlevel 5 to 3, just to what the virtual terminal looked like. It's quite interesting and it's a good challenge to see how much I really know without using guis.
On the next session, this is what I saw at the boot up:-
starting pcmcia : PCI: Enabling device 00:oa.1 (0080 -> 0082)
i852 count too high! resetting....
i852 count too high! resetting....
i852 count too high! resetting....
This happened around 12:30am, so I left the machine to do its stuff and went to bed. Well the message just kept coming. What could be the matter? Was it me, changing /etc/inittab ?

what a scary topic.
Anyway, is the box actually hanging? The topic suggests yes, but it sounds like it's running (?). You can log in and use it still, ya?
I don't think it has to do with inittab.
This could just be ERT (evil red text--e.g. looks scary on the screen, but it's just superfluous debug messages).
The text you have there doesn't even appear in google. How rare. ;)
