BLAG50001 (smack) has been released.
BLAG Linux and GNU is a 100% Free Software distribution.
BLAG is a single-cd distro with everything desktop users "expect" from a desktop, plus a collection of nice server apps.
BLAG50001 (smack) is based on Fedora Core 5 and uses packages from Extras, FreshRPMS, Dries, and ATrpms. It includes all Fedora updates as of time of release.

| Code: | | apt-get upgrade && apt-get install kernel |
will give you a list of what you have installed and what is available in the repo. if you running on a conventional sytem you'll end up doing something like:
| Code: | | apt-get install kernel#2.6.17-1.2174_FC5 |
this will require a restart.

|
|
I've the luxury of having an empty 40GB partition that is currently dedicated to installing an as-of-yet unidentified Linux distro (although dyne:bolic and OpenSuSE are front runners). I've read within this forum, however, that fresh installs of BLAG upgrades tend to be "cleaner" than upgrading the existing version in place. Is this true for even the "minor" upgrade from BLAG 50000 to 50001?
In a perfect world, I assume the code to perform the upgrade might be as simple as:
| Code: | # apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade && install |
Thoughts? Thanks!

not really.

Ya, to reiterate what r7 said, "not really". ;)
You just need to update your base system thusly:
| Code: | apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade |
Grab the latest kernel (and reboot):
| Code: | | apt-get install kernel#2.6.17-1.2174_FC5 |
Then you could also add the few bits added to 50001 that weren't in 50000:
| Code: | apt-get install gnomebaker graveman \ gstreamer08-plugins-extra-audio \ gstreamer08-plugins-extra-dvd \ gstreamer08-plugins-extra-video \
streamripper vcdimager |
That'll get you to the same setup as a 50001 fresh install.
FWIW, I personally don't (typically) do fresh installs. I have some systems I've upgraded since RH8 era...
