I've made a liveCD which basically goes straight to gcompris. It's weighing in at under 150M at the moment. It's meant to just run from CD, not be installed.

I looked at the README in the dir containing this image. You say that you'd like it to be tested. Anything you'd like to see tested in particular? Grabbing that image now via ftp.

I have been running this version on a number of different computers and it came up fine with sound. It is based on OpenBSD:
