Ya, security concerns if you are running Adobe Flash, which you "shouldn't" be because it's not Free Software. Adobe Flash is not in BLAG.
BLAG does include gnash, which has made a lot of progress.

I've been using Gnash regularly since 69K. It can play youtube. If you browse with a lot of tabs it can sometimes slow down the system, and sometimes a single movie will hog the browser process, so you just open up a terminal, as use ps x and kill to take care of those. I have a lot of the same problems though with Flash and it seems more likely to toast your browser session. It would be nice to have a way to turn gnash on and off so I can just turn it on when there is something I think it worth seeing.

You could use the noscript firefox plugin or something to turn on/off javascript conveniently. There likely is even a "noflash" equivalent plugin.

since when? first part of tweaking any computer i play with is turning off java. flash sites still work though. flash is flash and java is java. 2 entirely different things.

I generally don't use extensions, but what I want to do, although I don't yet have the skills yet to make this myself.
Make a tool bar were I can toggle on and off the following: Java, Javascript, Images, Flash, all other plugins, custom colors, custom fonts.
I remember way back Opera used to have buttons there for the colors and images, that was really freaking handy. If I could get this for Firefox, I would switch from SeaMonkey to use it, although there is no reason why SeaMonkey could get such a tool bar also.

don't you mean, if you browse "with" a lot of tabs open? or, do you mean if you browse with a single tab open, will cause slow down?

my edit to above pst doesn't seem to have taken, so replying.
i installed gnash, but can't get any flash sites to work. even one's only requiring flash 7.
what gives now?

Ok, I think I found my holy grail for tool bars.

This is bunch a buttons for your tool bar to do all sorts of stuff, amazing amount. I've basically added a whole bunch of buttons to my firefox and can now beat most webpages into submission without having to flip through option windows and config screens. I'll see how this progresses and which buttons are useful. Take a look at my firefox now:

That's basically: font shrink, font normalize, font increase, javascript toggle, java toggle, load image toggle, hide all images and backgrounds, animations and blinks and marques toggle, flash toggle, movie toggle, iframe toggle, stop all embeded content, stop cookies, change user agent. I think that's probably most of the useful ones. I even have room to put in the wikipedia button.

Hmmm.. the flash button doesn't affect Gnash, perhaps it's time I make a polite feature request. :)
