thnx jeff for replying...
i've tried the install with my cdrom drive disconnected. same thing happens...iit just ignores the dvd.
if i try selecting local cdrom install, with the dvd drive open...it'll suck it in, read for about 30 seconds, and come up with the same error. so i know it's looking at and accessing the dvd drive.
however, in windows, some of the files, including text files, are inaccessable from the dvd. in linux (ubuntu) they don't even show up!!! this leads me to believe that the dvd wasn't burned properly, or had some failures during the process...what do you all think?

yeah, sounds like problems with the DVD. You can test the DVD at the first step, or explicitly by typing "mediacheck" at the boot: prompt.

hmm...will do.
i doesn't even offer a test like fc2 does when you first insert the dvd...
i haven't heard from the company yet about getting another dvd....
they're the only site i've run across so far that offers the dvd.
