BLAG has an IRC channel. You can use X-Chat or Gaim to go to it.

Server:

irc.indymedia.org

Channel:

#blag

Come on and join us, there are usually about 5 people in there at least. Alot of people idle in the channel, so don't be offended if we don't respond.

Hi chaps.

This is to announce that you can now reach blag developers and help "operatives" through irc on irc.freenode.net.
So there are now two channels and they are listed below. Find us in either one of them. we are currently working on bridging the two channels so that you can be connected to both of them when you join either one.

channel => network
#blag => irc.indymedia.org
#blagblagblag => irc.freenode.net

Hey Steve,

Forgive my ignorance....I never use chat rooms...with xchat I connect to indymedia but get the folowing message.

I've been able to connect using the browser based java applet...but would like to use xchat or gaim...

Connection failed. Error: unable to get local issuer certificate.? (20)

Thanks Rob C.

In xchat, open the server list and select indymedia, edit it, check off permit invalid certificates and then try connecting.

Thanks,
Stephen Clement

I think the indymedia supports SSL, what port should we use for that?

Hello all, when i open X-chat and fetch the server/network list, I cannot seem to see indymedia listed. Am I missing something, I've rarely used IRC before, but I'm sure I'm following the steps, but indymedia does not show up. Any advice would be appreciated, would like to get a little more "involved".

server = irc.indymedia.org
port = 6667 [ or use what ever default port that you may be given]

SSL (recommended) requires port 6697

Forgive me if I'm not making myself clear, but when X-Chat fetches the network list, there is no listing for indymedia, or irc.indymedia.org, and if I add it manually, it says "Looking up newsserver", then "Unknown host. Maybe you misspelled it", but I pasted the address you gave me, and it's still wrong. I don't understand why indymedia is not showing up in my list in the first place. I'm probably doing doing something incorrect, but In cannot see what it might be. Sorry to be a bother, this is most frustrating.

edit: Where/how am i meant to change the port setting?

Try pidgin if you have troubles with xchat.

DNS is resolving for me, but that doesn't mean your machines may be having problems. You don't *need* to set things to 994, unless you want to do SSL. Indymedia isn't in the list of all builds--only custom ones we do and sometimes they get updated over.

Port 994 is no longer in use for SSL (or is deprecated), please use port 6697.

I've just installed BLAG for the first time... and I'm rather excited by it! I'd dearly love to join the IRC channel to start getting involved, but I don't know what I'm doing! (Must be about 15 years since I last used IRC...)

In XChat, I get as far as
Code:
* Connecting to irc. indymedia. org (209.51.169.94) port 6667...
* Connected. Now logging in...

This all looks rather promising. But if I say "/join #blag", nothing happens. I can't see any other commands that seem to do anything much, and if I just type some text, it tells me "No channel joined. Try /join #<channel>"

What am I doing wrong?

TIm.

Haven't used xchat in years. Perhaps you lose the hash?

I just logged into to confirm that the channel is up and running and it is...
