Here's a very interesting data point. If I wget from the blag dev box at FRII to John's box in France I get well over 3,000k/sec (yes, three thousand).
Now that's not unusal for me to get those download speeds, but why is the other direction such crap?

Running rsync on the serverpronto host to BLAG is much faster, for large files sustained around 950k/sec.
I'd still like to see that at more like 4,000k sec though :)

Well, now I'm getting like 700k/sec to the frii 10meg.doc at colostore and well over 1000k/sec when rsyncing from BLAG. So that's nice, at least there. :)
Things look faster at serverpronto too, so perhaps FRII has made some changes...

I'm very curious what kinds of numbers people get from these boxes. Downloading from BLAG at colostore I was getting easily 6MB/s sustained rsync. Singlehop was around that speed to or at 4MB/s when both were rsyncing at the same time. Singlehop was a lot slower like 300k/sec when all three were rsyncing and a bit over a 1000k/sec when it wasn't contending with the others.
