Have you changed your hard drive master/slave settings or physically changed something on the hard drive?

Also have you edited your grub.conf file?

kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-24.9 ro root=label=/

really ought to read

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-24.9 ro root=label=/

if anything because that is where the kernel would be. So edit that and see if it loads up.

Have a look inside /boot/ to check the kernel actually exists.

You may be able to boot from the CD and run an upgrade to have the kernel/grub re-installed.
