I think It would great to have a section in the forum where the users could explain on what hardware their BLAG is running and explaining what works or not.
It also would be great to share what you have done to have a fully fonctionnal distro. So if in yours there is something not working we can share our Xperience ;-).
If you made some modifications or special script it is also interesting.

Personnaly I modified the bootsplash, the rhgb output, the loginscreen and the Gnomesplash. I also have the latest kernel in 2.4 series.
I always use Gnome without BLAG Theme (Crystal Gnome inside).

It it a good idea?

What would you think for the forum name? Also, how about just General?

Also, this forum REALLY needs an off-topic area, i see too much crap making it into the other areas. I'll volunteer to moderate it. Either that, or I'll create an off-site off-topic forum. By off-topic though, i mean relevant info, not just crapflooding. E.g. talk about PC hardware, music, movies, etc. Not just crapflooding.

Also, a BLAG: Other forum might be nice that contains anything relevant to BLAG but doesn't fit in the other areas. E.g. the blag linux symphony.

BTW, the Politics section NEVER gets anything, maybe close it?

E-mail me at s.clement@localhost (replace localhost with sympatico.ca) or stevo32@localhost (replace localhost with blagblagblag.org).

General should be for anything non specific i.e. symphony.
Off Topic for anything not BLAG related.

Then just keep -

I think the forums are easy to maintain right now.

My idea was like this :
Pentium II 300 Mhz 224 Mb Ram 4.4 Gb HD Nofloppy

Install : OK
Video : Neomagic 256 driver with 2 Mb memory on Generic LCD Panel 1024x768
Sound : CS 4232 driver with IBM script to start|stop driver (allows a clear sound).
All laptop specific disabled (running as workstation cause a dead battery)
Fstab configured /dev/sda1 in vfat to read USB Key formated in Fat 32 and allows by hotplug to use my Fuji EX20 digital camera (no driver available in GPhoto).
External using of a Polaroid Burnax 52x USB without specific stuff.
Internal modem : disabled, I use an IBM V90 PCMCIA with builtin Linux driver (generic Modem).
Network : 3Com 10 Megs PCMCIA works with builtin Linux driver.

This computer is on Suse Nowell site labelled as "Linux compatible". The soundcard is on the bios blacklist because it may crash with 2.6 kernel series.

The journally use of heavy desktop environment like Gnome or KDE allows a good working speed (due to enough Ram I think ;-))

Tested with RedHat 7.0/7.3/8.0/Fedora Core 1 Suse 7.0/9.0 DamnSmall/Bonsai Linux
Never be able to work with Mandrake (X crash in 10.1 community, Bad peripheral identification in 8.2).
Best distro tested today : BLAG 10K (Very good work from the Brighton guys ;-))

Asus A7V880 (via 880 chipset)
512 MB Ram
2400+mobile XP@ anywhere between 400-2500 Mhz
Radeon 9000/64MB
80GB IDE hdd with win98/win2k/Blag.
Integrated sound - works
Integrated Lan (Marvel Yukon ) was not autodetected
HP Netserver Network card - works
LG DVD burner

Took me 3 installs to have it working, it detected only the PCI NIC.
Sometimes programs take quite some time to start
Otherwise works just fine

The programs are starting normally now.
Changed quite some stuff, so i cant tell what the culprit was.
The integrated lan is still not workin but that does not bother me, didnt even try to set the thing up manualy.

Install: first try
system: Gateway GP6-350
80(thats right count em)mb Ram
5 gig Hd
generic Cd Rom
Lite-on-LTR 16101B Cd Burner (haven't had to use it yet since the installl, but I'm sure it'll work)
Ancient Dell Monitor: works just fine
US Robotics internal Modem: works, the only other distro this worked with was Xandro$, I was plesantly surprised.
Everything worked right out of the box, so to speak. not as fast as when I had win98 on here, but I don't have to delete spyware 3 times a day so it's definately worth it!

The car's on fire and there's no one at the wheel, and nobody tried to put on the brakes at all.

Install: Good
video: on board AGP 8 MB shared
monitor: Samtron 55E(plus)
NIC: D-Link 220 ISA PnP
HDD Western Digital 15 GB

Install detects D-Link NIC but uses Novell instead..on re-boot I'm told the D-Link has been removed...do I want to re-configure...I say no and the boot continues with the network working fine....internet DSL FAST !!! through D-Link router (DHCP)

Great Distro...Best I've tried so far....FC 3 freezes my machine !!!

Is this still something that would still be useful to highlight what hardware people have had success on recently. I think it would be nice to discuss what people are using here, but also have a hardware database. I was thinking a design similar to Cyanogenmod, divided by desktop and laptop with details on the hardware.

In addition information that could be highlighted would be that people could use for hardware would be

SBCs and
Respects Your Freedom hardware product certification

Enjoy your day ahead!
