Hello - I have brought a Acer Aspire One with LINPUS pre installed. I have tried BLAG on it but it is a big program and slows the computer down too much. Can you build a LITE version of BLAG for me and anyone else who wants it on there Acer.

When is it slow - while browsing, using a particular program?

Try running 'top' from a terminal, to show you what, if anything is hogging the resources.

I use BLAG & Gnome on an eeepc 1000h, which I believe has similar specs to your Acer (same cpu, at least). However, I find flash can slow firefox down, so consider installing the Flashblock plugin in FF.

You could also try using openbox as window manager, which should speed things up a notch while keeping the desktop looking familiar:

(as root, in terminal)
Code:
yum install openbox

Logout
From the login screen, click on your user name, and then select 'Gnome/Openbox' from the box labelled 'Session'.
Enjoy ...??

I don't know whether lxde is available in the blag repositories, but it is really lite and fast and can be configured to look like gnome. Do a search with yum.

Also see if kazehakase web browser, abiword, gnumeric, and sylpheed-claws are in the repositories too. You just need to use lighter programs to get a lighter version of any linux.

There are some tweaks too, like disabling unused services, disabling gdm, and logging in with the console. You can also tweak the hardrive provided it is ide.

all these programs are in BLAG.
the package you need to install for LXDE is lxde-common.
Abiword is included in the standard installation. SylpheedClaws changed it names to ClawsMail a few years ago, therefore the package is called claws-mail.
