|
|
Good Day All,
For the next several releases, I wanted to get feedback on a release
naming convention that I thought we could use. I wanted to throw out
using a group of artist names from a specific period in Art History. I
did not have specific period in time, but a movement or set of artist
that identify with Free Software in general, is what I had in mind.
Think about it.
Post your feedback.
Let's have a discussion

Do you mean something like Debian where the version has two names : its number and its nickname?
I can just agree with the idea. I don't even know which is the actual version number of the last stable debian :).
After, for the name, I don't mind using artist names, but why using a certain period of time? And moreover, I don't have any movement that could identify with Free Software. Maybe with freedom in all its forms?

An 'artist name' is an egocentric concept more related with individualism, to me doesn't matter who's most famous in any period of western 'art history'

And why should we take the most famous? For me, it's more giving the name of someone for his ideas, rather than for his fame. But I admit, that it can be a bit risky.

Now THAT is a cool idea.
Mind you, I thought mine was cool also, but no-one even responded to it, so i guess none agree. :(

I think that abolitionists can be considered defenders of freedom Saint of Killers. I would consider them superheroes in the same context as those in the comics and knowing that they inspired many others and still inspire others fighting today, I think both your ideas touched on good points about how everyday people can do extraordinary things.

So is it our intention to abandon the previous practice of naming a BLAG release with a parody of the Fedora release it's based on (i.e. Fedora 9 = "sulphur"; BLAG 90000 = oxygen)? I'm not saying that some of the suggestions aren't good ones, but the previous naming convention acknowledged the source of the release.

Fedora 12 (Constantine)
Constantine I, Roman emperor, commonly known as (Saint) Constantine the Great
Surly it has to be Spartacus then :)
