|
|
As discussed here, on irc, riseup and elsewhere, we should try to come up with a list of stuff we want for BLAG 139k. So far, it looks like we could agree on most of the following:
Basics:
kernel-libre
gnome and lxde/openbox
deja vu fonts
Graphics:
gimp
gthumb (or geeqie?)
xsane
Internet:
icecat
sylpheed
xchat
gftp
transmission
pidgin
Office:
abiword
gnumeric
Multimedia:
quodlibet
mplayer
xine
brasero
istanbul
soundconverter
asunder
audacity
Tools:
language translator
unit convertor
gnote
rox-filer
obmenu
obconfig
Proposed extras (if space):
BLAG usb creator
gconf-editor
alacarte
tint2
minitube
cclive
leafpad
Or what do you say?

According to my first tries, we should cook 2 isos : one for Lxde and one for Gnome.
Why?
First size. I've got an iso which is almost 1GB.
Second, what I liked in first blag version was that everything was directly accessible, clearly, with easy and light tools. Menus are overloaded if we put both lxde and gnome.
I'm currently cooking a new iso according to these requirements.

Ideally, I would like it if we could achieve what we want with just one iso, as BLAG traditionally has been "everything you need on one cd". The suggested software is also very close to the classic BLAG lineup. Great work - lets do a few spins and see what we come up with:-)

Yes, but it looks like from f9 to f14, packages ate a bit too much at macdonald's :)
Because even with the blag 119k kickstart, I can't manage to cook a small enough iso.
I've tried to cook a really minimal iso for now and then, we'll add the packages seing up to where we can go.
Another possibility is that someone patches and compiles the linux-libre kernel for lzma support, and then we could use much more space (a 900 MB iso compressed with gz is less than 700MB with lzma)

A password manager like KeePassX should be included, and maybe Tor as well?

Nice, didn't know the password manager, I think we'll include it.
For Tor, I guess it's going to be more a iso-size problem. And I'm not really sure it's useful to include it by default. It should be in the repos, which is efficient enough
