|
|
Blag 140k beta is released.
What's new?
- blag repo
- blag *should* be completely blagified now : no more references to fedora
Signal all bugs you can find here, on IRC or wherever you want :)
ISO i686 : ftp://blag.fsf.org/140000/en/iso/Blag-140k-beta-LiveCD-i686.iso
ISO x86_64 : ftp://blag.fsf.org/140000/en/iso/Blag-140k-beta-LiveCD-x86_64.iso
MD5sums : ftp://blag.fsf.org/140000/en/iso/MD5SUM-BETA
TODO for RC :
-> Packages :
- really little guys variant without frames
- fedora liveusb creator configured for blag
- cclive or minitube or both
- KeePassX
- experimental 3D support for nvidia cards
- blag-bookmarks
-> Bugs : you'll have to signal them (sorry renilgh for your eeepc, i can't do anything)
- change grub splash.xpm.gz
- come back of blag-bookmarks
- licence info to change
- remove freed-ora-freedom
- remove google from search engines
- add seeks and yacy
-> Further ideas for development (won't probably appear in 140k, but could be good to think about it
- an introduction to blag, displaying in a fancy way the technical and ideological properties of blag.
- introducing kernel 2.6.36 or more could be a good idea to use a better compression algorithm for the isos
- changing the interface look and feel. I'm not really found of having 2 bars on my screen. Maybe one bar on the top with a little dock somewhere would be ok too? Thinking of wbar which doesn't require composite

How do I switch my blag 139k repos to the 140k? (I'm assuming that's how I upgrade ;p)

This solution should work
| Code: |
$ wget ftp://blag.fsf.org/140000/en/os/i386/BLAG.blag/blag-release-140000-1.fc14.noarch.rpm
# rpm -U blag-release-140000-1.fc14.noarch.rpm |

Installed the beta last night, and it looks like another really great piece of work, Koko:-)
So far, I only found two bugs:
- the license information in firstboot still refers to fedora
- the grub bootsplash is back at the first one i made, which is not 14-colour indexed as it should be. Still looks kind of interesting, though;-)

I'm moving these days, so working even slower than usual. The little guys without frames should be ready in a few days. The BLAG-liveusb creator i uploaded on riseup works fine, i just need to update the download sources. Kelsoo and i did two different builds of minitube a while a go, but i guess we might just as well use the fedora one, now that its in the repo.

Just reinstalled the eee with the beta. Again everything went very smooth.
A few things I would like to see in RC:
Return of the famous BLAG-bookmarks ( https://we.riseup.net/kelsoo/blag-bookmarks+61607 )
perhaps remove Google from IceCat and go with Sroogle, ixquick and DuckDuckGo
Other things:
Bluetooth module is loadd on every bootup although there is no btx-device
is free-dora-freedom really the way to go or can we, with our now available repos of our own, avoid to keep users from installing non-free components?
Huge thanks again,
--renilgh

Thank you all for your replies.
Would you figure out a way to remove the bug with bluetooth module renilgh? Cause I can't :s

I think we 'd keep google. The guy choose after if he to use it or not, but he has the choice
ixquick and DuckDuckGov are already in icecat (.13) like search engines.
Don't you have them ? Perhaps a problem of icecat profil, but normally the sould be here.
OK to add seeks et yacy. I 'll try to add it in the next icecat release
Congratulations for the quality and work of BLAG 140 !

Kk, than perhaps make Scroogle or WPEN default choice instead?

Awesome! Running v.13 that comes with the beta but have only ixquick and no DDG

Great idea. Will we get our own yacy-node at the server?

I'm going to include a custom version of the kernel, to include lzma support for squashfs. Why?
First because we'll be the first distribution to include it
Second because we'll be able to include more packets in the iso this way.
For blag bookmarks, there might be an error in the packet, because it's installed on blag beta. Should try to fix that.
@cyrille, try to fix blag-bookmarks, looks like an icecat error, not a blag-bookmarks one

????
Can you send me the file on these bookmarks ?
For the search engines
Seek has been add, but I don't find yaci file xml to add it.

The new way to get it to work is:
| Code: |
$ wget ftp://blag.fsf.org/140000/en/os/i386/BLAG.blag/blag-release-140000-2.blag140K.noarch.rpm
