First-ever Hardware Certification for LulzBot AO-100 3D Printer by Free Software Foundation

Loveland, COLO. (Oct. 9, 2012)— Loveland based, Aleph Objects, Inc. is pleased to announce its 3D printer, the LulzBot™ AO-100, received the Respects Your Freedom (RYF) certification from The Free Software Foundation (FSF). As the first hardware product to ever be awarded this recognition, RYF certification meets FSF's standards regarding users’ freedom and control over the product and privacy. Unlike other 3D printers, the LulzBot is an affordable, free-software printer, which sets the standard for dependability and high-quality printing, while giving customers the flexibility to bring to life whatever their imagination dreams up.

“Aleph Objects, Inc. is honored to have the first hardware product with the FSF's Respects Your Freedom certification and we're proud to sell a 3D printer that delivers independence to every user,” said Jeff Moe, founder and president of Aleph Objects, Inc. “We were founded upon the principle that people should be free to use, learn from, and improve the machines they use, as well as share improvements and innovations with collaborative communities.”

The spirit and philosophy of the free software movement is embodied in the LulzBot 3D printer, which features quick-turn printing using ABS and PLA plastics. Taking it one step further, all LulzBot printers ship next day with hardware designs, software and documentation so customers get everything they need to control, tinker, fix and improve upon every aspect of the printer, including access to the source code, design documents and specifications.

“The Respects Your Freedom hardware certification program is a fabulous opportunity to provide a valuable public service, while at the same time helping businesses be financially rewarded when they have commitments to increasing the social and ethical value of a product,” states Joshua Gay, FSF Licensing & Compliance Manager. “We hope that this is the first of many products that will bear the RYF certification mark.”

LulzBot is part of an uprising to change the industry and revolutionize the adaptability and independence of marketplace desires. From short-run manufacturing, to rapid prototyping, to simply producing something you may typically have to go and buy—with this type of technology, users can design and manufacture virtually anywhere.
