Hi all!!!
I am trying to setup my canon FB330P (it is on the supported list) my xsane and xsane-backends are fairly updated according to synaptic. I tried looking for more updated rpm but found non for FC3
when i run xsane it will scan for a supported device then gives up saying no device available
anybody have this problem before?
hope to here from you soon

Is this a USB printer? I didn't see anything about USB in the `dmesg`.
You can use `/usr/sbin/lshw` (which will output more as root), or perhaps `usbview` to tell you more info.

Hi Jebba
I was away from this computer so I was not able to try your suggestion right away....
Anyway..... executing xsane as root yilelded the same result nada! with the additional warning about it is dagerous to run xsane as root.
Also lshw (which is located in /usr/sbin, for those who wish to know) showed up nothing about parallel port. Here is the listing

just in case somebody is interested in this topic, I'm using the FB620 model from CanonScan with no problems in BLAG 9, it's fully supported by sane:
http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-mfgs-cvs.html#Z-CANON
Also I have to modify the BIOS configuration to set the I/O mode to EPP, because in the ECP mode the scanner freezes just before starting
here's my mini-howto:
1) Install xsane
2) uncomment (or create) 'canon_pp' in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf
3) uncomment 'init_mode FB620P parport0' in '/etc/sane.d/canon_pp.conf'
4) add my user to 'lp' group and give it execution/write/read permissions in /dev/parport0 ( #chmod g+wrx /dev/parport0 )
5) unplug the scanner power cord for 20secs and plug it again
6) run xsane and enjoy!
My mini-howto in Spanish:
