Woo hoo!

I'm posting this message from the first BLAGLIVECD boot.

It works. :)

If you have thoughts on what BLAG's live cd should be like, well, let us know.

-Jeff

:ahem: fluxbox :cough: BTY had a look in the repo via fltp, didn't see the iso image for the live cd. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough...

Why fluxbox over blackbox? Just curious. There's actually been some bb devel lately, I believe. Plus bb has been in blag since 8k or something. ;)

Also, the LIVECD isn't available yet. I'll make an announcement when it's there.

We're 99% done with BLAG39k alpha, which should be available in a few hours.

Actually I say fb not from any preferences but just from the fact that I use it 90% of the time. BB's fine.
May I suggest:-
Dillo for a browser? ( can't remember if it is java-able or flash-able) but it's nice and light.
Sylpheed for a mail client?
They are both very small with a tiny footprint. The "claws" version of sylpheed rocks but I'm not sure that it would be popular with everyone.
MC as an additional file manager/browser?

There are a few people "clamouring" for fluxbox, so it may replace bb.

Yep, this too.

Ya, sylpheed is pretty cool. I almost converted to it, but went with thunderbird, so I'd use what most blaggers would use (since 1995 I've used pine, then kmail, now thunderbird--changing clients for me is a major project...). Anyway, sylpheed is in the repo, and will stay there.

man that thing just reminds me of DOS and makes me cringe. It's in the repo. It's 2 megs, and we very tight on space, us.

Can you start a BLAG40k suggestions thread?

Thanks,

-Jeff

OK. BLAGLIVE is available. Run over to this dir:

ftp://ftp.blagblagblag.org/pub/BLAG/linux/40000/en/iso

and grab BLAGLIVE-39999.20000.iso or whatever is most current.

This thing is /very/ rough. Very very very very rough. But we thought we'd give you a preview. Lots more work to come on it.

Oh ya. Here's a hint: the root password is "blagblag". Perhaps you want to `startx` or `init 5` when you log in.

Don't worry, the final version won't be like that.

And ya, I know about the gconftool spew. ;)

Thanks for acknowledging requests for the live cd project. I do admit that `mc` is rather dos-ish in it's appearance but I find the vfs system invaluable. By this I mean the ability to browse tar.gz and zipped files just like a normal directory - even @\before\@ you unarchive or extract the contents. Prolly calling it the wrong this (VFS??)....

Code:
jayeola@15:41:47$ grep `md5sum BLAGLIVE-39999.20000.iso` MD5SUM-39999
MD5SUM-39999:e31428cd9e92350bbb688a404e3013bb  BLAGLIVE-39999.20000.iso

heh :-)

Looks nice so far!

CD spit out before power down would be handy.

Is there a way to implement mklivecd in a BLAG distro so we can hack on it?
Don"t we take after the initial install a few hours to set it up to our special needs?
I ask this because PSLinuxOS has one. (Some others too).
The program makes it silly easy to create your own cd.
I took the livecd installed it an remastered it to look and feel the way I like it. Gnome Desktop hacked on all the Gui stuff. I updated it removed program that I didn't need or used, installed ones I like codecs, plugins, flash,Limewire, and java.

(Yea,I know about the propritory crap).

But it does not apply if its for personal use right?
So now it works out the box and if i need to reinstall on another machine I get the distro with the same look and feel.
No hunting up plugins later. This could prove to make a better linux for everyone!

Just wanted to throw that at you guys and see what you think about it.

PS., I not leaving for another distro ,BLAG is still #1 (Maybe mine is #2) LOL

Well, you certainly can rebuild blag how you like. We have some docs on how to do that on the wiki.

We're not gonna be able to do a simple script for it though.

As for doing it with a livecd, I know there has been a bit of talk about doing a "snapshot" of the system an created a livecd from that (on f-devel lists). I don't know when such a creature will be ready though.
