|
|
BLAG30002 (Johannesburg) has been released -- Now 15.2% improved!
BLAG Linux and GNU is a 100% Free Software distribution.
BLAG is a single-cd distro with everything desktop users "expect" from a desktop, plus a collection of nice server apps.
BLAG30002 is based on Fedora Core 3 plus updates, adds apps from Dag, Freshrpms, NewRPMS, and includes custom packages.
BLAG30002 is the latest update to the BLAG30k series, using the last updates from Fedora before moving to the Fedora Legacy project.
New CD packages include kiax (VoIP softphone), netcat and xvid4conf.
Updates include a new kernel, xorg, firefox, glibc, openssh, thunderbird, inkscape, scribus, gaim, xchat, httpd (apache), php, cups, vim, zlib, icecast, blackbox, bluefish, gnupg, gtkpod, openssl, perl, php, spamassassin, bittorrent, graveman, kismet, xine, kino, and MuSE.
Overall, 130 packages were updated on the CD.
Alphas of BLAG based on FC4 are available, but 30002 is the recommended release. The next stable series will be based on Fedora Core 5 (BLAG50k). Development has started based on FC5-test2, but no ISOs are available yet. Expect 50k alpha ISOs "soon". :)
Keyworks: kickstart installs, apt, yum, synaptic, repository a52dec, abiword, airsnort/crack, amule, audacity, blackbox, bittorrent, bluefish, effectv, faac, faad2, ffmpeg, firefox, flac, xorg, gaim, gimp, gnome, gnumeric, gpg, graveman, grip, gstreamer-*, gtkpod, gthumb, hasciicam, apache, icecast, inkscape, kiax, kino, kismet, ladspa, lame, matroska, liferea, lshw, mjpegtools, mozilla, mysql, mpg321, mplayer, MuSE, netatalk, nmap, ssh, ssl, perl*, php, postfix, privoxy, python, qt, rpm, samba, scribus, spamassassin, speex, streamtuner+ripper, swh, theora, thunderbird, tor, transcode, vorbis, xchat, xfce, xmms, xvid

Hi, I am not sure if maybe my cd burned poorly but blag 30002 installed fine but had two broken packages when I opened up synaptic. Mplayer and mencoder were the two broken packages.

Confirmed. Dammit.
What happened is a more recent but lower version numbered libpostproc got grabbed last second.
Thankfully, mplayer still works though without having to do an upgrade.
An updated (correct) libpostproc has been added to the repository. You can fix by running:
| Code: | apt-get update
apt-get -f install |
Perhaps someone will be nice enough to post the equivalent in synaptic.
Soooo, this quite makes me cringe. I could roll out a quick 30003, which is a nice number. Whatcha think? We could also do any other tweaks if anyone has seen anything else. I'd like what is quite possibly going to be the last of the 30k series to be nicer.

I downloaded the bittorrent and I guess the CD ISO, but I got a different md5sum than I expected. I didn't try to burn it and install. Should I continue to let others upload from my file? Could my funky little low-tech CLI bittorrent client (ctorrent 1.3.2) be at fault? Has anyone else had this problem?
md5sum BLAG-30002.iso that I downloaded with the torrent.

To be honest, I've never had the right checksum with downloaded iso's from BLAG, but it has never been a problem for me. I rarely check md5sums anyway :p

Well, I downloaded the DVD off of the FTP server and it passed the MD5SUM, so I guess I'll burn that and delete the CD ISO. It seems to me mostly my Blag ISOs have passed checksum tests.
I used to ignore the md5sum, but it seemed to me whenever a installation stalled out and I checked the ISO later, it had failed the file integrity check. I think K3B automatically checks the md5sum by default, so it is not a big hassle.

Uh, you really want the md5sum to match....
It's
a00ce7abd3855d05551d18fd2407038e BLAG-30002.iso
Bittorrent makes sure it's fine and will get the missing bits if needed. If it's not passing via an ftp download, perhaps it's getting messed up when you resume or something, if you didn't get it all in one shot. You can take a broken ftp install and "fix" it by downloading the foo bits with bittorrent.
