The latest development version of BLAG has been released. It is based on bits from Fedora Core 5's upcoming release.

BLAG is 100% Free Software.

It has the basic bits users "expect" on a desktop and is all on ONE CD. BLAG49k now includes cinelerra and LiVES for video editing. Also includes, abiword, gnumeric, firefox, gimp, inkscape, scribus, xchat, gaim, liferea, mplayer, xine, airsnort, kismet, nmap, blackbox, fluxbox, gnome (default), bittorrent, amule, gtk-gnutella, gnomebaker, xmms + codecs, ekiga, linphone, ffmpeg, transcode, grip, gthumb, streamtuner, thunderbird, yum, yumex, apt & more. Did I mention it's all on ONE CD?

This is an ALPHA (test) release, but is running pretty nice already. Development ISOs are spun nearly every day. You can grab the latest one here:

ftp://ftp.blagblagblag.org/pub/BLAG/linux/50000/en/iso/BLAG-49999-current.iso

The current stable release of BLAG is 30002 and is the recommended release.

The alpha release is meant for "testing only" and may each your lunch.

Have fun,

-Jeff

The earlier release was running sweet on my test machine so the latest release must be going like a well oiled machine.

The list of apps on the CD sounds awsome already, it will be pretty cool when the final is release into the wild (will eat a lot of windoze for lunch ;)) from what I've seen so far it was worth waiting for.........did someone mention Longhorns........it's LUNCH TIME !!

Vas

Hi , new here so if I am posting in a wrong forum , please move it to the correct one.
Small bug that I found after I installed Blag, and like I said it is small, but yumex dosent get installed from the installation.

Correct. I need to add it to comps.xml. You can `yum install yumex` to get it.

Already did that 8-)
Just reporting.
BTW must say that Blag seems like a really nice distro, never been to fond of Fedora, (always seems I end up in Debian flavor of some kind)
But Blag seem to do right what Fedora dosent do right.
Like one CD, better default apps etc etc.
ok sorry rant over, look forward to be a part of the Blag community

hi jebba,

I'm downloading the 50K right now but is there a way to just "upgrade" from the current 30002 version ? So we don't have to do fresh-install cuz I already have all my desktop settings the way I like it.

If not, its okay.. i will still do the 50K

Uh, if you are gonna try an upgrade, you're pretty on your own.

It is known to be a bit whacked, but "possible". It isn't recommended.

If you do decide to do it despite the above, you'll want to run these commands after the upgrade:

Code:
apt-get update
apt-get -f install
apt-get dist-upgrade

Remember this is the 'test' version, so you don't want to run this on a machine that you must keep running...

-Jeff

P.S. You'll be able to do 30k->50k upgrades once the final "stable" version is ready.

But doing it via apt isn't recommended. Use CD.

Thanks,

hello steve and jebba :)

okay then I'll do that (fresh CD install when the stable release comes).

But could you tell us which folders are "worth" copying-over from my current install , into the future new install ?

I don't care about my home directory cuz I back it up to winXP drive daily.

I'm more concerned about the rest (current desktop setting, current theme, downloaded programs, etc). So which folders and files would this be ? And is it safe to overwrite / replace the future BLAG install with these current folders/files ?

All the files you are talking about get copied to your homedir.

Do you have a wiki page or something that has a cursory list of all the programs that come on the Blag 49K/50K disc?
