Hi, I was wondering if anyone had gotten Gnome ppp to work for dial up modems with Blag. I have a friend who wants to use linux but needs to use dial up. Not to mention he has a small hard drive so I don;t want to install all the KDE junk just to use KPPP dialer.

On my side no problemo running Gppp with a PCMCIA modem.
I just had to disable irqbalance due to a conflict with my eth0 PCMCIA.

the simple way is to buy an external modem, they are hardware based compared to software based internal modems. you may also look at linmodems.com to see if your freinds modem has linux support

I suggest you eBay down an old modem or find an old one lying around like I have. I collect real modems and softmodems that work with linux without evil proprietary drivers.

Thanks,
Stephen Clement

holy cow !! the topic ws created back in 2004 !!

yea .. anyone succeed in going online with dial-up modems ? and what kind /or brand did you used ?

I'm interested to know because my oldest sister (who is married) only have dial-up service due to her location (think Stone Age village). And I want to convert her PC into BLAG :) she uses it primarily for internet / openoffice / moving digital camera photo thru usb ports and burning to cdr.

Make it simple and go for an external modem.

I'm trying to track down a bunch right now, actually...
