Any thoughts on it? Haven't used it but sounds interesting enough. Looks like something for people that want to use and include non-free software. That some of us don't want to admit using but could get their hands on it quickly...

can i humbly ask for the inclusion of the spca5xx webcam driver (includes several hundred cams), which i guess requires kernel headers.....
it would be good to include it on the blag distro, or at least the repository, as blag is geared toward the multimedia user.....and this webcam driver is a bitch to install on its own
built-in modem support would be good too.

Well, we don't include any extra kernel modules on the CD... We've been kind of bitten by that in the past.
the spca5xx module is available at atrpms:
http://atrpms.net/name/spca5xx/
He hasn't built one for FC5 (blag50k) yet though.
Sometimes it's difficult to include atrpms packages because they require alll sorts of other stuff (e.g. including his repository and automatic updates!).
Perhaps I can put it in the repository when atrpms makes a new version AND if it doesn't require all sorts of other oddness. For this reason, atrpms packages really aren't in blag anymore.

Well, modems are supported. I also added gnome-ppp to the latest CD, which should make modem setup a bit easier. Anyone care to test it and let me know?
I think you may be talking about winmodems though. I believe a few are supported out-of-the-box by the mainline kernel (and therefore in blag too). Others don't have drivers or you have to buy them.

Hah, weird. I just compiled a spca5xx driver a few nights ago. Personally, I'd rather compile the drivers for a webcam than spend a while looking for the right RPM-- they're usually small and compile in a matter of seconds. No biggie. :)

i guess at this point this thread should probably be in the support forum, not here eh...
atrpms doesn't have an rpm for this kernel version....and compiling from source gives me
spca5xx-20060501]$ make
Building SPCA5XX driver for 2.5/2.6 kernel.
Remember: you must have read/write access to your kernel source tree.
make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build SUBDIRS=/home/saed/spca5xx-20060501 CC=cc modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.16-1.2111_FC5/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [default] Error 2

i looked all over for a kernel headers package for this kernel, none worked....is that what's missing?

if you have the latest 49k kernel (which has been on the last few CD images) run this:
| Code: | apt-get update
apt-get install kernel-devel#2.6.16-1.2111_FC5 |
Then try to compile the module. :)

and it tells me it's already installed
that is why this is so frustrating!

Jenka, are you sure the kernel and kernel-devel versions match? The arch has to match too--apt-get will automatically take care of that (e.g. i686 or i586)
Post the output of:
rpm -q kernel
rpm -q kernel-devel

This is something that could be nice for the next Blag :
Automounting all the partitions of the hard drive, either automatically, or during the install, so we could rename them (like in Zenwalk...)
This would be nice for those of us who have to dual-boot... That way it would be easy to read (and write) FAT32 partition, and read-only NTFS...

Since I've installed Blag 300003 on 3 of my 4 pc's, I wish to comment that I do enjoy a lot Shoutcast (I listen to all these jamaican regga station !!!)... So keep Shoutcast !
Then, I installed Gparted, via synaptic... I had to enable other repos... But it installed fine... I enjoy to have a gui partition tool... Gparted seems to be doing a good job so far... I actually used QTparted more, on live-cd's...
I have already posted about automounting fat32 and ntfs partitions...
So that's it for now... I'll write more if it comes to my mind...
