Hi, I was wondering if it were possible for you to add macromedia flash rpm and the Java rpm to the repository and or possibly add them to the blag linux cd realeses. I know how to get these two things off the internet myself and install them but I figure it would make it much easier on people who are new to Linux to have these things available. Not to mention it being a pain for new people to lean how type in the stupid java extracting command just to get the rpm. LOL

Maybe it could be added to the apt repository if there isn't enough space on the CD? I think the less proprietary software the better so I don't really care to see it in BLAG anyways.

Can't really include java/flash on the CD.

Menu->System Tools->Synaptic
is pre-configured to download it from macromedia. Just go into "repositories" and check the macromedia one.

Then update, then install the plugin.

There's a post in this forum in the last couple days about how to get java stuff from Dag's repository.

Would it be against the licensing for each of those apps? I figure we ought to keep the CD to GPL'ed software unless there is other stuff in there already that is not GPL,

hi - newbie question:

i want to look at the online mayday parade www.euromayday.org, for this I need a flash player. Tried unsuccessfully to find it on synaptic (searched "flash player" and "repositories"). How do I go to "repositories and check the macromedia one"?

thanks for any help

ionnek

Hey ionnek. :)

1) Start Synaptic
2) Go to Preferences->Repositories in the synaptic menu
3) Find the line that says http://sluglug.ucsc.edu/macromedia/apt/ (or any line with "macromedia")
4) Put a check next to that line, so it's enabled and hit "OK"
5) Click "Update List" button in synaptic. This will download the list of available applications.
6) Then find "flash-plugin" in the list and highlight it. Click the "install" button at the bottom right.
7) Then hit "execute" button at the top
8) This will then tell you what it's gonna do--acknowledge it by hitting "proceed"

Different versions of synaptic may be slightly different.

Ciao,

-Jeff
