Ya, it's there.

You can search it in synaptic or run:

Code:
apt-get update
apt-cache search foo

Do you have xfce4-session installed? I think that package adds it to the "Sessions" menu.

i installed it but is not in etc/x11/gdm/sessions or any where else that i could find,i'm back at the situation where i cant install any thing again, with yum its 'argument not found' and apt-get will go through the motions and not actually install anything,i tried 'apt-get -f install' again but it did no good,i'm going to have to go back to 40k until the release version comes out as i'm just getting to many problems, the sound system will suddenly stop working and i have to keep rebooting till it comes back, every time i start up it runs through the 'first time boot configuration' and lots of other strange things are happening! thank you again for all your help.

Shaarn, I'm using xfce right this moment, I don't use it normally but I read your post and decided to install it (just to test it). It installed without a hitch and all I had to do is click on Sessions and choose it as my WM log in and away we go.

Just make sure you install the xfce-sessions too (apt-get update && apt-get install xfce xfce-sessions) and that should solve your problem.

Vas

thanks for your replys but the problem was i could not install anything, yum just returned 'argument not found' and apt gave all the installation feedback but nothing actually got installed? if i ran apt again it said 'the latest version is already installed' i was was also having some other serious problems with the sound and x-server and 'first boot configuration' running every time i started up! unfortunately i had to go back to 40k but at least i have xfce but i still cant get it to recognize the window decorations i install(bangs head against wall) i've tried everything including to the 'how to' from the xfce site and death threats! but nothing works!my lifes quest is now to use the window decs i want and i wont give up,they wont beat me,no they wont!(incoherent mumbling under breath and general paranoia follows).
thanks again andy

Replace "foo" with "xfce" in that command.

foo = generic term to search for, mean to put xfce in it's place.

What do you mean by not showing up in sessions? In the login screen? I had the problem of finding the right package that got it in there. I should have written it down. Make sure you have:

xfwm4
xfdesktop
xfce4-session

I'll try to poke around for what I did.
