If you have VT, go KVM. It has been in the stock blag kernels for some time now.
If you don't have VT, you can use qemu. If it's too slow, you can compile in the "kqemu" module which gives it a significant speed up.

Today is a sad day.
There's an w/2003 server that I administer for which I can not log into cos one of the characters of the passwd is a doze non-ascii "alt+xyz" thing. Just installed xp *spit* on a 20GB cow file image using kvm. I have not seen that horrid landscape background for __five years__ on any of my machines. Getting nightmares already.
