I learned linux on rh9 and become very upset when it reached EOL. The Fedora project was just not my cup of tea, that is until I took a bold step and loaded BLAG 10k. This is just want the doctor ordered. I am curious though as to why 10k is a newer version than 20k since it is a lower number, or am I just addicted to the RH way of doing things. Again, just curious about the numbering or am I more confused than I thought. I am by no means a linux guru, but I sure do love Blag. Thank you very much for a great distro. After installing and uninstalling it about five times ( i had some trouble weaning off of rh9) I can state positively blag is on my box to stay................

Hi, 10k in the current stable release but it is older than 20k. 20k is built using FedoraCore 2 which has a few problems. 20k has inherited these problems and therefore it isn't considered stable enough to take over from 10k as the current stable release.
The next release that we are eagerly awaiting will be 30k and that will be built using FedoraCore 3.
There is a version of BLAG built using RH9 called (can you guess? :D ), BLAG 9002. (it was originaly called 9000 but there were two updated .iso files released, 9001, and the latest 9002).
I think most of that is right, hope it helps

Thanks for taking the time to satisfy a nosy old man. When 30k comes out, are people notified thru the mailing list like fedora legacy does or is it just posted in the forums? Also, if one were to want a copy of 20K, or 9002, is there a mirror site it can be downloaded or has that boat floated away : :D ? thanks again .

Just to clarify about the version numbering:
BLAG 9000 (BLAG9001, BLAG9002)= RedHat 9
BLAG 10000 = Fedora Core 1
BLAG 20000 = Fedora Core 2
BLAG 30000 = Fedora Core 3
I will leave up older ISOs (CD images) of BLAG and try to keep the repositories up-to-date, but for the older releases I'm depending on things like Fedora Legacy to make updates. I'll just add them to the archive.

Perhaps the 10K release seems an old release, but after trying some 2.6 kernel based distro, today I think it is a very good choice to continue with this base.
I just made some upgrades of specific applications on Fedora website.
As I wrote on suggestion I think that Abiword and Gnumeric have to be replaced by OOo.
Gtoaster could also be replaced by Gcombust.
No need to keep Epiphany with Moz on CD.

Ephiphany kinda made it on CD because it is now gnome's default. I'm thinking about that one.
Abiword, I like until my gf tried doing end-notes and then the document kept crashing /all/ versions of abiword, including 2.2. I was also surprised to see that OOo didn't have abiword import.
OOo would be cool on CD, but it's huge. Just huge. It certainly won't run on older machines and takes up waaaaaaaaay to much on the CD.
Thanks,
-Jeff

Thanks Jebba,
Sure I forgot old computers...cause I don't think that some have older than mine (TP600e Pentium II 300 Mhz 224 Mb Ram) but you are right it exists today.
For few months I installed a RH 7.3 on a Armada 120 MMX with 96 Mb Ram and it was working fine with Gnome (but crashing with KDE). I had just to run XFree 3.3 ans disable lot of services starting on boot. I had OOo 1.0 on board.
But as you know OOo is too much fat to stay on the mandatory 1 CD project.
The good news of the day is that BLAG 10 K is the best ever installed distro I get.
Very stable with a very good integration of rpms coming from his father Fedora Core 1.
You will find below what I install to have my BLAG :
ximian-artwork-0.2.29-0.ximian.6.3
wine-20040505-1rh8winehq
j2re-1.4.2_05-fcs
gnuchess-5.06-2
openoffice.org-1.1.0-6
gcombust-0.1.55-2.fr
gnome-themes-extras-0.7-1
gnupg-1.2.3-2
XnView-1.68-1
acroread-5.0.9-1.0.rh8.dag
RealPlayer-10.0.0.297-20040730
timidity++-2.11.3-8
xboard-4.2.6-7
openoffice.org-libs-1.1.0-6
xaos-3.1-9.3.aur.2
flash-plugin-7.0.25-1
gpgme-0.3.15-5.1.fc1.fr
seahorse-0.7.3-0.fdr.5.1
aspell-fr-0.50-3
openoffice.org-i18n-1.1.0-6
You can see old RH 8.0 rpms installed and working because I migrate from a RH8.0 distro wich was installed for more stability.

When people use the term 'stable', what does that mean exactly? i have had 20k installed in P2/P3 laptops and boxes and they have run with no problems at all. Most of the time when I do have problems the cause was me not reading man pages or instructions carefully before compiling/building/using.
Agreed on Abiword. Try to put some tables on a doc with a header file and you'll bounce, bounce, bounce [ouch]. Well It did for me when I was updating my CV.
Man, I'm so happy with BLAG that I could 'jump back and kiss myself', like James Brown :)

stable means it hardly ever crashes and has very few flaws,in the 20k alpha case, the whole installation messed up xp installs by almost destroying the partition table...thats why it will be never released. 30k on the other hand is very stable, and doesn't have that dual-boot flaw.

The link for the 2000 beta doesn't work. Both myself and hoppy have tried it and it stalls at 26% for both of us....

What are you using to download this? What happens if you resume the transfer, does it just hang there?
I was able to wget it fine.
