still love this browser in linux.
doesn't blow my hair back so much in windows anymore though.
easily the fastest browser on earth still, in linux. may still be, in windows, but to erratic for me, when i do use windows, which isn't that often.
not even up on the main opera page yet, but it is here,

I have zero interest in it since it is not Free Software... What's the point? A little bit faster perhaps (if that's accurate)?

why isn't opera considered free? they don't charge for it anymore. what, just because it isn't written by the mozilla folks?

I use links all time, it's a very useful tool.
We are talking free as in freedom. Opera doesn't have the source available, and you can't modify or repackage it for redistribution. I know at one point it had the best interface, but recently I haven't been as impressed with it.

duh! didn't even think of open source when i typed that.
close enough to free for me though. it smokes, even on this ancient 650mhz, 384mb memory machine. of course, i realise a lot of that is due to how well blag is running on this machine. best it's ever been.

Opera is quicker on a slower machine but on a quicker machine I don't see notice it being any quicker and certainly not as quick as any text based browser obviously.

opera is quicker, period! always has been. probably always will be. not arguing, just my belief and what i see on any machine i've ever installed it on.
although it's drawback is being to strict according to w3c standards.

Yes, I don't see any speed difference compared to Epiphany. The new Firefox 3 is suppose to be blazing, so it will be interesting to see.

i knew that was coming, but that's only in your eyes and the eyes of others that want to be constricted to choice. to me, free is free.
firefox flat out sucks, be it in windows or linux, although not quite as bad in linux.
epiphany can't touch opera, although i do like that one.

It's not that we want to be constricted in choice, it's that we want to have the freedom to be able to check out the source code, to know what the software is doing it, to fix it if it's not working right or how we want, to be able to modify for our own needs, to be able to distribute those modifications. Install non free software today is a shortcut that could lock you out tomorrow. For instance I used the free in price but non-free opera for my phone to almost two years. I went back to check for security and functionality updates and found that if I wanted to get them, I know have to pay them money. Yes, the first few hits were free, but now I'm stuck wanting or paying. Luckily I can still get Opera-Mini for my phone for free, but who knows for how long? The consumer has no control, it's the whims of the company. One day Opera will want money from you one way or another, they are a business and can't keep paying employees with money that grows on trees.

when that day comes, even opera will be history. but until then, i've used and loved opera since the version 5 days, even though i've never paid for it! ;)

What if you find out opera was tracking your website usage?
I'm asserting opera is doing this, but it certainly has been done with other proprietary programs in the past. That said, if the WERE doing it, it wouldn't surprise me either.

Dillo, the fastest gui-based web browser out there. Designed to fit on a floppy.
lynx - Cool text based browser
elinks - Tabbed-based text browser (uses tabs just like firefox)
opera - Probably a very cool browser and I have heard a lot of good things about it. No source code, I can't find out how it works, if I did (I'd be liable for something), then I would not be able to publish results.
