i know most people take steve gibsons grc.com site with a grain of salt, but i've never tried his site in linux with at least going through the router, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to do, but...................
i would have to go through some changes to connect directly to the modem, is why i've never done it myself.
anyway, was just curious how well firestarter/iptables stand up to a full scan of all ports without going through a router?
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
thanks
edit:
went through the changes of connecting directly to modem. passed the test in true stealth mode (all green boxes on all ports). however, right under that it said failed also. the description still sounded like i was totally secure though.
will reconnect to router to see if that is what it always says though. don't remember!
must reconnect to router as firewall by itself is going nuts!! can't stand that, even if that is what it's supposed to be doing!
after doing this and resetting network connections, i now no longer have a defualt dns search path listed in connections. forgot what it was before and doesn't seem to matter, but what should it be?
nope,
it does say passed, off to the side of true health status.
