Hello
I was reading another post "introducing myself" about the direction of BLAG. I've been shopping around for a distribution to use, and would appreciate a little advice and clarification.
Ubuntu turned me to Linux last year, and now I want to take the GPL thing further. It seems that Ubuntu, like BLAG, have stepped aside to allow gNewSense to be the dedicated free software distribution for the time being. Since you've skipped past 80K, am I right in assuming that there won't be a stable new release in the next three weeks during semester break when I have the time to set up a new system?
Thus, I'm thinking that I'll be sitting on gNewSense for the next semester and then I'll have another look around in summer. As much as I'd love to be attached to the distribution with the website that tells you how it 'works to overthrow' ("I'm using the anarchist O/S in my bedroom" I tell people regarding my second computer running 70K) before it starts assuring you that it's just as easy as windows, I still might be able to say that I can do all I want to do using free software and it works real well.
Does this rationale make sense?

Well, I'm not so sure about that assessment. Gnewsense does a very good job of being a dedicated free software distribution, but I think BLAG does as well. I've personally done a bit of work to clean out the linux kernel (alexandre oliva has now picked up this work) and I spend plenty of time making sure the repos have free software only. Ubuntu outright *adds* non-free software to their distro.

Only "alphas" of 80k were released. Part of that was due to me spending a good chunk of time on the kernel. A stable release in the next 3 weeks would roool, but I'd be surprised if it happened. Actually, things are reasonably close--I hope to push out a beta here RSN. You can use the 90k alphas if you are comfortable with apt/yum/rpm.

Heh, cool. :)

Sure, if you want a "stable" release, but realistically the currently 90k alpha *runs* fine, it's just a bit crufty to install.

Thanks!
I noticed that the alpha comes in 64-bit and I'm having it!

oh, firefox totally blows in blaghead and 90k at the moment, but I'm off to see if i can fix that right now. I use `seamonkey` in the interim.

I think BLAG highlights better technologies than gNewSense. I don't agree with their inclusion of: Evolution, Mono, and Open Office.
BLAG is a better desktop out of the gate. 70K is still the best desktop out there and worth installing.

thx. :)
Instead of working on firefox i cleaned up the repo scripts so they are far less, but still plenty, crufty. :) The whole thing will take far less time though and that's a relief to me.....

70 is the best iso image for a laptop or desktop - period.
