Hello,
I got a question. Is blag a rolling-release or a frozen-release type distro? In other words, will it stay updated with new fresh packages or will they grow old? Is it possible to configure blag to do both - as in one or the other not both at the same time obviously? For example, is it more like debian stable or debian testing/sid?
a couple bonus questions:
I assume blag uses the linux-libre kernel by default?
Whats the difference in the netinst and the standard ISO?
I am sure I will have more question - be prepared!

it stays updated as long as often as you run apt-get or yum to update it. Although after official fedora support ends for the version it's based on, the upgrades aren't so much.

the netinst version is very small and has very few packages on, during the install process the packages required are downloaded. the standard iso has many more of the packages on to start with.

also worth pointing out that the "stable" BLAG version: 90000 [but keep your eyes out for 90001...] is based on fedora core 9, so should be supported for a good while yet. fedora core 7 support has just run out.

If you want a rolling release with the latest software you want:
BLAGHEAD: SOFTWARE FROM THE FUTURE
Note, you gotta be handy with figuring out dependencies and such as this thing has massive changes daily. If you want a more stable release, install BLAG 90001 (forthcoming).

awesome info! my body parts will be hanging out anxiously waiting for 9000(how many zeros was that)0001, I did see a alpha around here somewhere. Although getting head, blaghead that is, may be something to check out.
Loyal debian user for many many years but starting to wonder why. That being said, I am not usually a fan of rpm based distros but if it has apt then that almost makes up for it and since I greatly appreciate the linux-libre project I figure I need to check out blag!
I will probably end up running back to a debian-based system but I would like to check out blag and see how things go. I thought about creating my own little distro (yes another damn distro) with a focus on minimal apps, command line usage, and plenty of freedom - deciding on a base or if I can find something I like without having to do a lot of work.
I am more of a minimal/icewm kind of guy so my first desire would probably be a custom ISO. I assume it is the same shizit to customize a ISO - extract squash, chroot in, change shit, resquash?

To rebuild a free distro you could use tools like pungi (what blag90000 used) or revisor and just point it at the blag repo to include the packages you want.

You could also create a local repo based off blag, modify the packages you want, then point pungi/revisor at your local repo.
Thats one way. There's lots of ways to go about it....

Builder is a hell of a system, but it is really overkill for what I usually do. A lot of the tools to customize/rebuild are either overkill or restrictive to where I cannot do eveything I want to do. So I usually just customize manually - rip things out, add a few things, tweak some others and I am good to go.

Is there plenty of software available in blag/repos? I am interested in 'weird' stuff like file-rc, pmount, pump, dash not to mention the more normal stuff like icewm, xmms, xfe, epdfview, gprename, bash-completion, yada yada. You can just tell me to install it and find out and quit bugging the shit out of ya if you want to. Oh and what all dependencies does the anaconda installer have?

Last I heard BLAG has 12 gigs, but might be bigger now.
anaconda is just the installer for the CD. I think it runs on python

Repo is like 17 gigs (i386) and a bit over 10,000 packages.
Anaconda uses python.
