m4p conversion?

Ignoring all of my ranting about free software and DRM, my wife has downloaded a number of songs from the Apple iTunes store. Now of course she wants to share one of them with me, but can't. Soundconverter and oggconverter won't touch m4p (unless I'm missing something), and I'm loath to buy one of the myriad conversion "utilities" that seem to be out there. Is there any mplayer command line magic that might work, or am I doomed to burn/waste a CD so that I can rip it as an OGG file?

Are you using the iTunes software? Like on an XP machine?

If so, apparently there is a way to convert to MP3. See the link above.

The Apple file extension is actually M4A, and if you Google "M4A Linux" you will find some conversion instructions.

Use ITunes to burn it to a CD (you are allowed 2 burns per song IIRC) Then stick the CD into your BLAG box and rip it with grip.

and is it possible to convert these files after uninstalling iTunes? My files don't play on PC now.

The "p" in "m4p" stands for "protected," so utilities like soundconverter, which work beautiful for m4a format don't work easily. I'm not sure if there's a hack available somewhere in the interwebs, but the only sure-fire way to convert is what has already been mentioned by noldrin - namely to burn a CD with the m4p file, and then to rip the CD on your BLAG system using grip.
