What Sony model is it? Does it connect via USB, firewire, or what?

Ok. I did some searching:
http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl ... tnG=Search

Looks like there is some Free Software for this device, but I couldn't get to the site.
http://opennmd.monochromatic.net/

This has info about NetMD in general:
http://www.minidisc.org/NetMD_faq.html

Quote from one:
"(Note that none of the non-commercial packages provide high-speed downloading from a PC or Mac since the secure DRM aspects of the NetMD USB protocol have not been cracked)"

http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~bertrik/netmd/

Anyway, in sum, it looks like, with work, you could edit titles and things on the player, but you cannot download. Someone will have to crack the proprietary format first.

Sry for the bad news...proprietary formats suck.

I've spent a few weekends scouring forums and google as I also have a "netmd" minidisc player. At the moment there isn't a method for up/downloading via usb. Just like jebba said, the fileformat is closed. There are a few tools around to help you sniff the packets
whilst the device is using the usb cable. I think it's called usbsniffer. You may want to read the docs and forums at http://www.minidisc.org/ as I have.
They even have a link to the minidisc patents. Very complicated stuff but the patents explain exactly how they work ;). I think that the md may be superceeded by ipods and other portable hdd players. Shame though as I do like the device...
