I tried to download 30k alpha from the browser and got a "550 failed to change directory" window, so I tried to download from "wget" and it returned "no such file or directory". Am I doing something incredibly wrong and stupid or is there a glitch in the url ? I run mozilla 1.6 for my browser.

actually, I was downloading from the development site: ftp://ftp.blagblagblag.org/pub/BLAG/linux/30000/en/iso/BLAG-29999.00001.iso I will give it a shot with the given llink. My apologies, I thought I had the correct link. So, I guess it was a case of stupid and wrong. Thanks once again for your patience and response. I'll get this linux thing right one of these days.

No, not your fault. The link I gave you was just to a newer ISO (one that actually works :P )
