I'm not a gamer, but I thought I'd poke around and see what the game status was on Linux. It's not as dire as some claim... :)

A nice site with GNU/Linux game info:
http://www.happypenguin.org/

Some games that you can get from the BLAG repository:
tuxracer <--- race down a hill & eat herring
wesnoth <---- strategy game http://www.wesnoth.org/
torcs <--- car racing game.

Install info:

Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install tuxracer
apt-get install wesnoth
apt-get install torcs-data-cars-extra torcs-data-cars-nascar torc-data-tracks-oval torcs-robots torcs-data-tracks-road

I'll keep hunting around & adding to this list.

You could also check out freeciv, but I don't really understand it.

Code:
apt-get install freeciv
civserver (not as root)
civclient

Other apt-gettable games that people like are bzflag, supertux, & neverball.

Flight simulator (not in repository, but I think it's coming soon--looks very good):
http://flightgear.org/

A huge game with lots of players & pretty complex is Planeshift:
http://www.planeshift.it/

This looks kinda cool, but I didn't play with it much:
http://www.ufoai.net/

Some binary-only, but free games:
wolfenstein: http://games.activision.com/games/wolfenstein/index.asp?section=et

Also, you can run a lot of MS games using wine.
Code:
apt-get install wine

Games on linux, but cost $:

http://www.idsoftware.com/

Not sure if they are free or not (exactly), but you get source & then run on linux:
Quake 2: http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quake/quake2/

Being quite a heavy linux gamer, i'd also like to note that the Loki games ( http://www.lokigames.com/ ) work quite nicely with BLAG. Some places still sell them ( http://www.lokigames.com/orders/resellers.php3 ).

Also, here are some games on Linux I like:

Tuxkart
Frozen Bubble (come on this game is just plain awesome!
Enemy Territory is a great free FPS for linux, from iD software. Click on 'Enemy Territory' at the top.
SuperTux

Emulators

Visual Boy Advance is a great GBA emulator
ZSNES, best SNES emulator IMO
Currently, i'm looking for a GOOD nes emulator for linux.
WINE, for running Windows apps under linux

I'll supply some larger lists of linux games I like if people would like them...

:)

Thanks,

Stephen Clement
