|
|
hi I installed clamav but it is not linked in the applications menu.
I had it running with a gui on knoppix 3.7. If i type clamscan I can scan a directory but non of the gui's are available from apt.
Before i search for loose rpm's etc.. is there anyone who knows the proper way to have a virus scanner on blag 30K ?
:?:

clamav scans for virii coming in thru the mail server to protect windows machines. I'm not sure what a GUI would do for it. I don't know of a GUI for it.
What exactly are you trying to scan?

with clamscan you can scan files like so:
[root@boxing sources.list.d]# clamscan
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/atrpms.list: OK
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/macromedia.list: OK
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/dag.list: OK
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/freshrpms.list: OK
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/jpackage.list: OK
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/os.list: OK
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/blag.list: OK
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/newrpms.list: OK
----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
Known viruses: 28510
Scanned directories: 1
Scanned files: 8
Infected files: 0
Data scanned: 0.00 MB
I/O buffer size: 131072 bytes
Time: 2.287 sec (0 m 2 s)
So from time to time I'd like to scan my files for known virusses. On Knoppix I had a gui for this (to get new signatures and to scan files or directories)
The manual talks about some gui's but none can be installed for missing deps, ot the home pages are dead/obsolete:
avscan
beclam
clamaktion
clamshell
clamtk
clamXav
FETCAV
KlamAV
wbmclamav
I am now looking for other repositories that might cover the missing deps. So blag doesns not cover "normal" scanning purposes for clamav, only the mail server deamon. hmm. I wont give up !

As far as I can tell, clamav scans for /windoz/ virii, not linux virii (which are basically non-existant). Are you trying to scan for windoz virii or linux virii?
It looks like those GUI packages are not part of clamav, but are 3rd party programs. I think the reason something like knoppix includes so many is so people can boot off the CD to scan their windoz systems from linux.
There are a couple rootkit checking packages in BLAG that check for Linux rootkits: rkhunter & chkrootkit. If you are trying to verify that your BLAG system is clean, you may want to check those out.
To search other repos for 30k-compatible RPMs see:
http://dag.wieers.com/packages/
http://heidelberg.freshrpms.net/
http://atrpms.net/name/
Also http://rpmseek.com can help you track things down (covers lots of distros).

To add to what jebba said, for finding RPM's you might also want to look at:
http://www.rpmfind.net/
http://rpm.pbone.net/

I tried the Klamav under KDE : works fine after a good file conf (please read readme first).
I was dreaming about a Glamav GUI ;-)
