Check this out; http://www.securityfocus.com/column...08?ref=rssdebia I think that this geezer is saying that the default setting in most kernels are leads to boxes that are suscepible to forkbombing. This true? Not losing sleep over this article - I remember kazim and jeba saying stopping any services that you don't need is enough.

Well, someone has to have a local account on your box to fork bomb it. And it's not hard to figure out who the fork bomber is. So basically, I wouldn't worry about it unless you're an ISP with 100s of users with shell accounts. If you need to, then edit this file: /etc/security/limits.conf See also ulimit.
